Man Up // Cufflinks

So in case you didn’t know this about me, I LOVE men’s fashion, maybe even a little more than women’s fashion. I’ve always been drawn to more masculine features in fashion and to interior decorating. Well fitted suits, vibrant ties, striped oxford shirts, wing tip shoes, and Eldredge knots totally do me in. I thought I would start my first “Man Up” post with one of the greatest accessories a man can use to show his personality off when wearing a suit: cufflinks. They’re not always distinct, but when noticed it’s a nice way to catch a glimpse of a man’s charm.

Birchbox // October 2013

October.Birchbox.Review

October was a pretty fun month; football, cozy weekends, and Halloween, October is always full of fun mischief. October was also a month full of Birchbox! This month was filled with a lot of great “beauty buzz” products. This month was focused on what Birchbox is just obsessed over, which I thought was so awesome because I’m always wondering what the experts and professionals use in their daily lives. I have to say that I was really impressed with my box this month. Here’s what I received:

Dermablend Professional, Smooth Indulgence Mineral Finishing Powder
My usual make-up routine does not consist of a finishing powder and I never really thought about using one. When I got this product in my box, I was kind of like “what am I supposed to do with this?” Plus, I already get pretty oily skin naturally, so I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to add more “stuff” to my face to get all mixed up in that. But this product eliminates a lot of the shine I get, plus it just evens out my skin tone really nicely and doesn’t feel like I’m wearing another layer of make-up. Two thumbs up!

Liz Earle, Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
This stuff is awesome! Seriously, my face felt so fresh, clean, and happy! It’s a make-up remover and an exfoliator! Double whammy! Liz Earle is a product that is quite popular in the UK and a Birchbox exclusive! All you have to do is massage the formula into your skin, then with the muslin cloth you wipe it off in a circle formation. If you’re going to try any new product this month, please try this one! But you also have to  get the muslin cloth, it makes a huge difference! Read my comment below!

Liz Earle, Pure Muslin Cloth
Just like any great pair, it works best if you have the other. If you get the cleanser, you need to get the muslin cloth. The cloth isn’t rough on your skin like an exfoliator might be, it gently wipes off the formula and polishes the skin as well. Use warm water with it while taking off the cleanser and then just wring out and hang to air dry. Simple as that. Get it!

theBalm cosmetics, Stainiac in Beauty Queen
If you like to pack light and use products that can be used for multiple reasons, this product is right up your alley! At first, the product was a little intimidating because it came in this bright red/maroon color in a liquid formula with a wand. Automatically I’m thinking the color is going to be too much for everyday wear, it’s going to be messy, and not last. False. The color is just so slight, it goes on cleanly and it lasts all day! It goes on like a gloss but wears like a lipstick but stays like a stain. It’s fantastic and is probably the utopian version of a lip color. Just a little swipe on both lips and you can call it a day. Oh, but wait! You can use it on your cheeks as well! Dab a little on each check and blend it quickly, it dries fast!

ChapStick, Hydration Lock
Birchbox has started something that I am a HUGE fan of. They started adding mass-marketed products in their boxes. It gives us a chance to be able to try out products that maybe we hadn’t thought about trying or have wanted to but weren’t sure if we would like it. This month we received ChapStick’s Hydration Lock and let me tell you, I’ve tried probably every lip treatment under the sun (and in the sun) and have to say that this ChapStick is pretty freakin’ epic. It keeps my lips soft all day. Plus, it doubles as a lip primer and is full if antioxidants like CoQ10 and Vitamin E. With winter upon us, it’s take to take extra care of your lips, so pucker up with Hydration Lock!

So, in my last review I failed to try one of my products before reviewing: Juice Beauty’s Green Apple Peel Sensitive. I finally was able to give it a whirl and to be honest, I wasn’t super excited about it, but I was more impressed with it than I thought I would be. I have never used a peel before and I’m not even really sure if I did it right. Putting it on was nice and easy, but as it dried I really felt my skin getting itchy and tight. But when I got it off my skin did feel soft and clean. So maybe that’s how peels are supposed to go, but the results are definitely worth it. I’m going to try using it a few more times to see if it is something I can really get into.

Well, that’s it from me. I hope you’re all having a great week and let me know, what beauty product are you buzzing about lately?

Geek Out // Free iPhone Wallpaper

Happy November everyone!

These past couple of weeks has really felt like fall for me. My weekends consist of curling up with a blanket, a hot cup of coffee, and watching the Seahawks! And it is definitely starting to feel more like Washington weather with all the rain, wind, and chilly air. Lately I’ve become really obsessed with watercolor. I took a watercolor class years ago in college and I have to be honest, I sucked at it. I just can’t grasp the water to paint ratio. But thank goodness for free Photoshop brushes. Check out my watercolor wallpaper with some fall inspired colors. Enjoy!

Color Punch // Chartreuse

chartreuse!

I have always been a big fan of chartreuse. It was always that color that nobody used in their box of crayons, but my chartreuse crayon was short and stubby because I wanted to put it on everything. It’s not a color you normally see and is such a nice surprise when you do. I’m really in love with Mini Coopers and I would just die if I had one like the illustration above in real life.

1. Forever 21 Classic Cutout Trim Scarf $8.80  2. Ikea Bernhard $149.00  3. J.Crew Knock Knock for J.Crew Pocket Notes $4.99  4. Old Navy Girls Convertible Mittens $12.94  5. Society6 C. Barrett Mini Cooper Car Print $16.99

Craving // Military Jackets

I have always been a fan of military styled apparel. Maybe it’s because my dad was in the Air Force while I was growing up and I saw a lot of the uniforms. With the brass badges, gold pins, structured fit, and just an overall sense of authority, what’s not to love?

As of right now, I am craving an Army green Military jacket. I thought I was one of the “cool kids” this fall because I was on the hunt for one, then I realized that all the “cool kids” were already locked and loaded with their fabulous Military jacket finds and rocking them out. What I love about Army green is how it can be treated like a neutral. It goes really well with black, red, chartreuse, leather, gold, glitter, whatever your heart desires, it will happily hang out with any color and material you want.

What fall trend are you currently craving?
