Fall Love

Happy Fall!

Happy Fall!

Happy First day of Fall!

Seriously. Where did summer go? I swear as I get older the faster the days/months/years go by. For reals though, this summer was the fastest, busiest, most fun summer in awhile (actually, last summer was pretty awesome, too. Okay, just kidding, all summers are awesome). It was filled with walks down by the water, my annual race of Ragnar Relay, LOTS of weddings, BBQ’s, birthday celebrations, and so much more. I freakin’ loved it! Summer is hands down my favorite season.

It seems like someone just turned the switch and it went from summer to fall like that. And although I love the long summer days, I am very much welcoming this cooler, crisper Autumn air. It feels so refreshing. I feel like this time of year feels more like a time for renewal rather than January. I tend to hibernate a little bit in the fall and winter and usually have more time to myself to reflect and just kinda take a deep breath and…relax. I tend to watch more Harry Potter, drink more tea, and read more during this time of year.

The two things that I’m really excited about this fall are 1) FANTASY FOOTBALL  and 2) layering. It’s my first year being on a Fantasty Football team and I have to say, it makes watching football so much more exciting! I’m a total Seahawks girl till I die, but I have to say, rooting for players that aren’t on your normal team roster is fun. It helps you appreciate the players a lot more as really great athletes. I’ve learned wayyy more about football this year already than I have of all my years of football watching. My team name is “Lorem Ipsum” and if you’re a designer, you’ll probably appreciate it.

Layering. Okay, so this has been one of the hottest summers in Washington lately and it’s really hard to wear clothes comfortably when it’s 90 degrees out. Most weekends, I usually ended up in the same shorts, flip flops, and Nike tank with a messy top knot bun. Boring, right? Well, now I can wear a white t-shirt, chambray button-up, and a sweater with boots and be super happy (oh yeah, and some kind of pants). I love layers. I love scarves, sweaters, button-ups (even with my disadvantage, AKA big boobs), boots, leggings, and jackets! Dude. Jackets. They’re my kryptonite. My mom would always be like, “You don’t need another jacket. You have six more just like it.” BUT MOM! This one has studs! Never helped my case.

If any of you are from the Pacific Northwest, you know how bi-polar our weather can be here. It’ll be foggy and chilly in the morning, then it’ll piss rain, then it’ll all of a sudden be 75 degrees out for like 20 minutes and then hail. So layers are almost a must here. Check out some of my photos below for some layer-spiration.

Cheers!

Craving // Overalls

In the fifth grade all I wore were overalls. Seriously. I had two pairs and I wore each one almost every other day. My fancy overalls had red flowers stitched on the bib (Oh yeah, I was super cool). After the fifth grade though, I ditched my overalls for some wide flared jeans and cargo pants (yeah, I really wasn’t that cool). But have you noticed that overalls are making a comeback?! My fifth grade self is giddy beyond belief.

So how could an adult woman wear a childish garment such as overalls? Think of them like your regular jeans. And believe it or not, but overalls have become much more chic than when we were wee ones. If I were to wear a pair of distressed jeans, I would wear maybe a jeweled sweater or a simple button-up with a statement necklace. Same thing with overalls, wear some statement pieces and then it won’t feel so “kid-like” or “too young.” With a pair of really nice dark denim jeans I like to wear something a little more loose or care-free, say like a simple baseball tee or a white v-neck with some bright earrings. Try doing the same thing with a dark wash overall, like in my last photo with Blair from Atlantic-Pacific. And lately with graphic pants being on the trend, try a pair of printed overalls. Try polka dots with a floral print or lace with stripes.

Don’t let overalls intimidate you. Give them a whirl, your fifth grade self will thank you.

Birchbox Reviews

Birchbox.Review.031814

Hey all,

So, since my little hiatus, I have missed quite a few Birchbox reviews. Instead of trying to make up four months of reviews, I’m going to do a little something different this time. I’ll tell you everything I got and in what box but then I’m going to pick my top five favorite products and tell you all about them. So, let’s get started!

November #MoreGood
Beauty Protector, Protect & Shampoo
Beauty Protector, Protect & Condition
Color Club, On the Rocks
Dr. Jart +, Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25+
Juicy Couture, Viva la Juicy Noir

December #BBHoliday
Harvey Prince, Hello
Manna Kadar Cosmetics, Sheer Glo in Birchbox Love
Number 4, Non-Aerosol Hairspray
The Honest Company, Organic Healing Balm
twistband, Printed Hair Ties

January #GoTime
Camille Beckman, Glycerine Hand Therapy-Morelia Monarch Scent
Juicy Couture, Juicy Couture Original
Nail Rock, Sequin
TONI&GUY, PREP Heat Protection Mist
Ahmad Tea London, Assorted Teas

February #PartyInABox
Joan Vass, L’eau de Amethyste
Miracle Skin Transformer, Face Spotlight
OPI, Sheer Tints in Be Magentale with Me
SARAHPOTEMPA, The Half-Up
32 Oral Care, Effervescent Breath Crystals with IsoVoxy

My Top Five Favorites:

Beauty Protector, Protect & Shampoo (November’s Box)
This stuff rocks. Hardcore. It smells wonderful and gives great shine and volume to your hair. I use it just like my regular shampoo and then use the partnering conditioner.

Beauty Protector, Protect & Condition (November’s Box)
With the combination of the shampoo and conditioner, they bring such great volume to my hair. I have really thick, slick Asian hair and a lot of it. So Beauty Protector has helped to bring a little life to my hair. Highly recommended from yours truly.

Harvey Prince, Hello (December’s Box)
In case you haven’t noticed, I get a lot of perfume samples and I LOVE it! I love trying new scents and using them for special occasions or just for daily wear. If you ask my mom or boyfriend, I wear too much apparently, but I swear I only spritz once or twice! For reals! Anyway, this Hello scent is just adorable. It’s light, airy, with notes of citrus and a hint of floral. It’s perfect for spring.

TONI&GUYPREP Heat Protection Mist (January’s Box)
Hands own, favorite product that I have received in the past four months! I use it almost everyday now. I use three different products in my hair and they’re all Aquage, but this brand actually has me rethinking the Thermal Spray that I use from Aquage. Since I use my hair straightener on a daily basis, using this spray helps to keep my hair from damage and protect it from breakage.

SARAHPOTEMPA, the HALF-UP (February’s Box)
So, like I said earlier, I have crazy Asian hair and getting any hair product or tie to work in my hair is like asking Taylor Swift to keep a boyfriend for a month (AKA, not gonna happen). But, there might be a real chance for Taylor Swift because I got a hair product that actually holds my hair. I’ll be honest, I waited awhile to actually try this products because I didn’t think it would work since 98% of the time they don’t. But, it works! Grips my hair great and when rolled up, it doesn’t slip or feel like it’s going to fall out. Unfortunately, my hair is still on the short side to be able to do a proper bun, but when my hair does get to the right length, I’ll definitely be using this tie-up.

Well, that’s four months of Birchbox for ya. What have been some of the products that you’ve been raving about, Birchbox or not?

Hey bloggers,

It’s been awhile, a little too long of awhile. First of all, I have to apologize for falling off the blogging horse. A lot has happened in the past few months that made me put Bold + Studded on the backburner, hell let’s be honest, it wasn’t even on a burner. I had let things happen in my life that allowed my priorities to get out of whack. It messed up my blogging schedule, it affected my work, my relationship, my friendships, it even took a toll on my eating and sleeping habits. Now that time has passed and I feel as though I am back to being “me” and getting everything aligned again, Bold + Studded is definitely back on the burner and will be spilling with all sorts of design, fashion, and reviews.

A few weeks ago, my boss had challenged my c0-workers and me to spend an hour or so to ourselves to think about our personal organization processes. I finally took that hour today and read this book that my boss had used when he attended some training on organization. It was from a Franklin and Covey seminar and there were so many good topics to think about, and not just professionally. Although it touched heavily on how to keep on track at work and how to stay focused on the bigger things instead of always trying to put out the fires, the book also spoke about how to keep the things that are truly important to you in your life in check as well. So I made a list of all the roles in my life that I want to always be in mind of, they consist of: Graphic Designer, daughter, girlfriend, sister, friend, teammate/athlete, and blogger. I wrote a sentence about how I wanted those roles to look like and how I was going to do that. My sentence for being a blogger was about becoming transparent, passionate, and consistent and I will get there by posting at least once a week and spending two hours a week on research. It may not sound like much, but after a three month hiatus, I have to start somewhere, right?

Until next time…

Man Up // Cufflinks

So in case you didn’t know this about me, I LOVE men’s fashion, maybe even a little more than women’s fashion. I’ve always been drawn to more masculine features in fashion and to interior decorating. Well fitted suits, vibrant ties, striped oxford shirts, wing tip shoes, and Eldredge knots totally do me in. I thought I would start my first “Man Up” post with one of the greatest accessories a man can use to show his personality off when wearing a suit: cufflinks. They’re not always distinct, but when noticed it’s a nice way to catch a glimpse of a man’s charm.

Birchbox // October 2013

October.Birchbox.Review

October was a pretty fun month; football, cozy weekends, and Halloween, October is always full of fun mischief. October was also a month full of Birchbox! This month was filled with a lot of great “beauty buzz” products. This month was focused on what Birchbox is just obsessed over, which I thought was so awesome because I’m always wondering what the experts and professionals use in their daily lives. I have to say that I was really impressed with my box this month. Here’s what I received:

Dermablend Professional, Smooth Indulgence Mineral Finishing Powder
My usual make-up routine does not consist of a finishing powder and I never really thought about using one. When I got this product in my box, I was kind of like “what am I supposed to do with this?” Plus, I already get pretty oily skin naturally, so I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to add more “stuff” to my face to get all mixed up in that. But this product eliminates a lot of the shine I get, plus it just evens out my skin tone really nicely and doesn’t feel like I’m wearing another layer of make-up. Two thumbs up!

Liz Earle, Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
This stuff is awesome! Seriously, my face felt so fresh, clean, and happy! It’s a make-up remover and an exfoliator! Double whammy! Liz Earle is a product that is quite popular in the UK and a Birchbox exclusive! All you have to do is massage the formula into your skin, then with the muslin cloth you wipe it off in a circle formation. If you’re going to try any new product this month, please try this one! But you also have to  get the muslin cloth, it makes a huge difference! Read my comment below!

Liz Earle, Pure Muslin Cloth
Just like any great pair, it works best if you have the other. If you get the cleanser, you need to get the muslin cloth. The cloth isn’t rough on your skin like an exfoliator might be, it gently wipes off the formula and polishes the skin as well. Use warm water with it while taking off the cleanser and then just wring out and hang to air dry. Simple as that. Get it!

theBalm cosmetics, Stainiac in Beauty Queen
If you like to pack light and use products that can be used for multiple reasons, this product is right up your alley! At first, the product was a little intimidating because it came in this bright red/maroon color in a liquid formula with a wand. Automatically I’m thinking the color is going to be too much for everyday wear, it’s going to be messy, and not last. False. The color is just so slight, it goes on cleanly and it lasts all day! It goes on like a gloss but wears like a lipstick but stays like a stain. It’s fantastic and is probably the utopian version of a lip color. Just a little swipe on both lips and you can call it a day. Oh, but wait! You can use it on your cheeks as well! Dab a little on each check and blend it quickly, it dries fast!

ChapStick, Hydration Lock
Birchbox has started something that I am a HUGE fan of. They started adding mass-marketed products in their boxes. It gives us a chance to be able to try out products that maybe we hadn’t thought about trying or have wanted to but weren’t sure if we would like it. This month we received ChapStick’s Hydration Lock and let me tell you, I’ve tried probably every lip treatment under the sun (and in the sun) and have to say that this ChapStick is pretty freakin’ epic. It keeps my lips soft all day. Plus, it doubles as a lip primer and is full if antioxidants like CoQ10 and Vitamin E. With winter upon us, it’s take to take extra care of your lips, so pucker up with Hydration Lock!

So, in my last review I failed to try one of my products before reviewing: Juice Beauty’s Green Apple Peel Sensitive. I finally was able to give it a whirl and to be honest, I wasn’t super excited about it, but I was more impressed with it than I thought I would be. I have never used a peel before and I’m not even really sure if I did it right. Putting it on was nice and easy, but as it dried I really felt my skin getting itchy and tight. But when I got it off my skin did feel soft and clean. So maybe that’s how peels are supposed to go, but the results are definitely worth it. I’m going to try using it a few more times to see if it is something I can really get into.

Well, that’s it from me. I hope you’re all having a great week and let me know, what beauty product are you buzzing about lately?
