Fall Love

Happy Fall!

Happy Fall!

Happy First day of Fall!

Seriously. Where did summer go? I swear as I get older the faster the days/months/years go by. For reals though, this summer was the fastest, busiest, most fun summer in awhile (actually, last summer was pretty awesome, too. Okay, just kidding, all summers are awesome). It was filled with walks down by the water, my annual race of Ragnar Relay, LOTS of weddings, BBQ’s, birthday celebrations, and so much more. I freakin’ loved it! Summer is hands down my favorite season.

It seems like someone just turned the switch and it went from summer to fall like that. And although I love the long summer days, I am very much welcoming this cooler, crisper Autumn air. It feels so refreshing. I feel like this time of year feels more like a time for renewal rather than January. I tend to hibernate a little bit in the fall and winter and usually have more time to myself to reflect and just kinda take a deep breath and…relax. I tend to watch more Harry Potter, drink more tea, and read more during this time of year.

The two things that I’m really excited about this fall are 1) FANTASY FOOTBALL  and 2) layering. It’s my first year being on a Fantasty Football team and I have to say, it makes watching football so much more exciting! I’m a total Seahawks girl till I die, but I have to say, rooting for players that aren’t on your normal team roster is fun. It helps you appreciate the players a lot more as really great athletes. I’ve learned wayyy more about football this year already than I have of all my years of football watching. My team name is “Lorem Ipsum” and if you’re a designer, you’ll probably appreciate it.

Layering. Okay, so this has been one of the hottest summers in Washington lately and it’s really hard to wear clothes comfortably when it’s 90 degrees out. Most weekends, I usually ended up in the same shorts, flip flops, and Nike tank with a messy top knot bun. Boring, right? Well, now I can wear a white t-shirt, chambray button-up, and a sweater with boots and be super happy (oh yeah, and some kind of pants). I love layers. I love scarves, sweaters, button-ups (even with my disadvantage, AKA big boobs), boots, leggings, and jackets! Dude. Jackets. They’re my kryptonite. My mom would always be like, “You don’t need another jacket. You have six more just like it.” BUT MOM! This one has studs! Never helped my case.

If any of you are from the Pacific Northwest, you know how bi-polar our weather can be here. It’ll be foggy and chilly in the morning, then it’ll piss rain, then it’ll all of a sudden be 75 degrees out for like 20 minutes and then hail. So layers are almost a must here. Check out some of my photos below for some layer-spiration.

Craving // Overalls

In the fifth grade all I wore were overalls. Seriously. I had two pairs and I wore each one almost every other day. My fancy overalls had red flowers stitched on the bib (Oh yeah, I was super cool). After the fifth grade though, I ditched my overalls for some wide flared jeans and cargo pants (yeah, I really wasn’t that cool). But have you noticed that overalls are making a comeback?! My fifth grade self is giddy beyond belief.

So how could an adult woman wear a childish garment such as overalls? Think of them like your regular jeans. And believe it or not, but overalls have become much more chic than when we were wee ones. If I were to wear a pair of distressed jeans, I would wear maybe a jeweled sweater or a simple button-up with a statement necklace. Same thing with overalls, wear some statement pieces and then it won’t feel so “kid-like” or “too young.” With a pair of really nice dark denim jeans I like to wear something a little more loose or care-free, say like a simple baseball tee or a white v-neck with some bright earrings. Try doing the same thing with a dark wash overall, like in my last photo with Blair from Atlantic-Pacific. And lately with graphic pants being on the trend, try a pair of printed overalls. Try polka dots with a floral print or lace with stripes.

Don’t let overalls intimidate you. Give them a whirl, your fifth grade self will thank you.

My Top Five Favorites:

Beauty Protector, Protect & Shampoo (November’s Box)
This stuff rocks. Hardcore. It smells wonderful and gives great shine and volume to your hair. I use it just like my regular shampoo and then use the partnering conditioner.

Beauty Protector, Protect & Condition (November’s Box)
With the combination of the shampoo and conditioner, they bring such great volume to my hair. I have really thick, slick Asian hair and a lot of it. So Beauty Protector has helped to bring a little life to my hair. Highly recommended from yours truly.

Harvey Prince, Hello (December’s Box)
In case you haven’t noticed, I get a lot of perfume samples and I LOVE it! I love trying new scents and using them for special occasions or just for daily wear. If you ask my mom or boyfriend, I wear too much apparently, but I swear I only spritz once or twice! For reals! Anyway, this Hello scent is just adorable. It’s light, airy, with notes of citrus and a hint of floral. It’s perfect for spring.

TONI&GUYPREP Heat Protection Mist (January’s Box)
Hands own, favorite product that I have received in the past four months! I use it almost everyday now. I use three different products in my hair and they’re all Aquage, but this brand actually has me rethinking the Thermal Spray that I use from Aquage. Since I use my hair straightener on a daily basis, using this spray helps to keep my hair from damage and protect it from breakage.

SARAHPOTEMPA, the HALF-UP (February’s Box)
So, like I said earlier, I have crazy Asian hair and getting any hair product or tie to work in my hair is like asking Taylor Swift to keep a boyfriend for a month (AKA, not gonna happen). But, there might be a real chance for Taylor Swift because I got a hair product that actually holds my hair. I’ll be honest, I waited awhile to actually try this products because I didn’t think it would work since 98% of the time they don’t. But, it works! Grips my hair great and when rolled up, it doesn’t slip or feel like it’s going to fall out. Unfortunately, my hair is still on the short side to be able to do a proper bun, but when my hair does get to the right length, I’ll definitely be using this tie-up.

Well, that’s four months of Birchbox for ya. What have been some of the products that you’ve been raving about, Birchbox or not?

Man Up // Cufflinks

So in case you didn’t know this about me, I LOVE men’s fashion, maybe even a little more than women’s fashion. I’ve always been drawn to more masculine features in fashion and to interior decorating. Well fitted suits, vibrant ties, striped oxford shirts, wing tip shoes, and Eldredge knots totally do me in. I thought I would start my first “Man Up” post with one of the greatest accessories a man can use to show his personality off when wearing a suit: cufflinks. They’re not always distinct, but when noticed it’s a nice way to catch a glimpse of a man’s charm.

For the nerd Silver USB Cufflinks $100.00 shefinds.com

Some handsomely good examples of cufflinks.

Color Punch // Chartreuse

I have always been a big fan of chartreuse. It was always that color that nobody used in their box of crayons, but my chartreuse crayon was short and stubby because I wanted to put it on everything. It’s not a color you normally see and is such a nice surprise when you do. I’m really in love with Mini Coopers and I would just die if I had one like the illustration above in real life.

1. Forever 21 Classic Cutout Trim Scarf $8.80  2. Ikea Bernhard $149.00  3. J.Crew Knock Knock for J.Crew Pocket Notes $4.99  4. Old Navy Girls Convertible Mittens $12.94  5. Society6 C. Barrett Mini Cooper Car Print $16.99

Craving // Military Jackets

I have always been a fan of military styled apparel. Maybe it’s because my dad was in the Air Force while I was growing up and I saw a lot of the uniforms. With the brass badges, gold pins, structured fit, and just an overall sense of authority, what’s not to love?

As of right now, I am craving an Army green Military jacket. I thought I was one of the “cool kids” this fall because I was on the hunt for one, then I realized that all the “cool kids” were already locked and loaded with their fabulous Military jacket finds and rocking them out. What I love about Army green is how it can be treated like a neutral. It goes really well with black, red, chartreuse, leather, gold, glitter, whatever your heart desires, it will happily hang out with any color and material you want.

What fall trend are you currently craving?

Birchbox // August 2013

Birchbox August 2013

Happy day bloggers!

I hope you are all having a wonderful September–isn’t it crazy that we’re more than half way through it? Well, let me catch you all up on some things in my life. I have currently become computer-less. My MacBook Pro of six years has officially passed away. It was a sad and solemn day, but there is good news; I’ll be getting a new iMac (woo hoo!). As of right now though, my lovely boyfriend is allowing me to use his MacBook when he visits.

Alright, enough of my computer-less nonsense, let’s talk Birchbox! I have to be honest, when I first received my August Birchbox, at first glance I wasn’t too excited about the products I received, but then when I tried them out I totally fell in love! You know how that saying goes, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Here’s what I got in my August box:

KMS California, Freeshape Hot Flex Spray
Hands down, this is probably my favorite product that I have received out of all of my Birchbox products. I’m so not kidding, it’s amazing! I just recently chopped my hair off (you can read the post about it here) so I’ve been styling it a lot more. With this stuff, all you do is spray it in damp hair, blow dry it and style it how you like it, and then done! I usually take the flat iron to it, too. This spray helps keep your hair in place until you wash it out. I’ve even gone a second day without washing my hair and it still keeps its hold. I will definitely be buying this product full-size, which is only $18.99.

OC8, Professional Mattifying Gel
I don’t normally use any kind of lotions or anything on my face before make-up, but when I used this Mattifying Gel, it did wonders to my skin. It helped even out my skin tone and made my face feel fresh all day, even with my make-up on. Plus, I tend to get a little “shiny” throughout the day and this definitely helped to minimize that. Super great product!

stila, stay all day liquid lipstick
I’ve been receiving a lot of different lip products in my boxes and to be honest, this one isn’t my favorite. But I will say this, it truly does stay almost all day. It comes in a liquid formula and the brush is almost like a sponge and it’s a little odd putting on, but when it dries it’s a nice matte red that sticks with you throughout your day.

Whish, Exfoliating Body Wash
This body wash is glorious. Not only does it just smell heavenly, but it scrubs and exfoliates beautifully. I’m pretty tough on my skin; I workout quite often and literally sweat like a fat piggy, but this wash just rejuvenated my skin and made it feel so soft as soon as I washed it away. And again, I just have to say the smell is just so delicious! It’s a coconut enriched scrub with sugar cane and bamboo powder; you can’t go wrong with those ingredients!

Whish, Hair Inhibiting Deodorant Swipes
Like I said, I workout quite a bit, so extra deodorant? Yes, please! What I like about these is that you don’t get that horrible white streak from normal deodorant formulas. It was quite refreshing, it’s like I didn’t even feel like I was wearing deodorant and I didn’t feel sticky, either. Unfortunately I only received one swipe, so I can’t really say if the “hair inhibiting” is true, but just for the clean and freshness I would definitely use this product again.

Birchbox’s August theme was “Finishing School” and I definitely felt refreshed, clean, and bright. And as usual, I am looking forward to seeing my September box, which is all about Birchbox’s 3rd Birthday with a focus on heritage. Happy Birthday Birchbox!

Also, guess what? My lovely friend Hilary of Cutie Cameras is celebrating her one year birthday of her blog! So in celebration, she is doing is a giveaway that includes a framed print made by me! You can enter to win this beautiful giveaway here!

Have a great week, bloggers!
